On December 4, 2017 the RCSBA hosted its annual Legislative Dinner at the Nyack Seaport. Our Legislators, Ellen Jaffee, Ken Zebrowski, James Skoufis, Karl Brabenec, as well as members of our county school boards and various community members attended. Snowed out for a second year in a row, the 2016 Legislative Breakfast was postponed and a subsequent Legislative Forum was held at the Nyack High School auditorium on February 22, 2016. Dr. James Montesano, Superintendent of Schools from Nyack began the program and spoke about educational funding issues and the continued difficulty in balancing revenues and expenses. Mario Spagnuolo, Assistant Superintendent of the Nanuet School District followed with a presentation on the tax cap legislation and its impact on the learning environments throughout Rockland County. Finally, Pam Frederick, Executive Director of RCSBA, spoke about the Education Investment Tax Credit legislation (also known as the Parental Choice in Education Act) and the significant and harmful impact it will have to public education, if enacted.

On January 25th, 125 concerned stakeholders joined to listen, learn and question our local legislators about issues and pending legislation that impact the children of Rockland County. Dr. Ken Mitchell, Superintendent of Schools from South Orangetown, spoke about concerns related to the Common Core standards. David Grammerstorf, President of RCSBA, addressed the issues specific to Rockland County BOCES. Pam Frederick, Executive Director of RCSBA, focused discussion on the Gap Elimination Adjustment (GEA), the Education Investment Tax Credit, the Alternative Veterans Tax Credit and the Upstate Gaming Economic Development Act.
